Another definition from Readers Digest Universal Dictionary! BANANA REPUBLIC n. Informal. A small country, especially in Central America, often economically dependent on a single crop, such as bananas, and regarded as politically unstable.
,perhaps it's politically unstable because its a republic gone bananas!- haha. (sorry)

In Tanzania, they have 54 varieties of banana, including strait ones!
